BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools and its union for support staff, Local 1010 of the International Union of Painters & Allied Trades, have agreed on a salary increase and a set of tentative agreements for 2019-2020.

The proposed contract provides for a seventy-cent ($ .70) increase in hourly rate for all employees represented in negotiations by Local 1010.

Those workers include more than 3,100 bus drivers, custodians, tradespeople, paraprofessionals, cafeteria and other support staff.

After five bargaining sessions which began on October 1, 2019, the school district and union also tentatively agreed to the following:

– Changing bereavement leave to allow three days of leave upon the death of a family member.

– Allowing employees to transfer up to eight hours of sick leave to another employee who is in need.

– Modifying the on-call plan to raise the stipend to $15.00.

– Providing transportation employees in an automotive mechanic role an annual tool replacement stipend of up to $150.

WHAT’S NEXT: The plan is to have this information out for an employee vote and ratification in early December in preparation for school board approval at the December 17, 2019 board meeting.
