BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The South Brevard Sharing Center announced that they received a donation of five-hundred dollars from Hey, Blue! and the Eau Gallie community.

Hey, Blue! is an initiative started by a retired police officer to encourage the public to improve police and community relations.

The donation was given for one of the South Brevard Sharing Center clients, a pregnant single mother of four who is currently experiencing homelessness.

For the South Brevard Sharing Center, having a strong community partnership is crucial in their mission to support, strengthen and empower families to achieve self-sufficiency.

The mother who benefitted from the donation has been struggling for quite some time, resulting in her having to live in the woods throughout her high-risk pregnancy.

Despite her hardships, she has been diligently working with a case manager at the South Brevard Sharing Center to improve her situation and move into a safe, stable home for her and her children.

With the help of Hey, Blue! and the Eau Gallie community coming together on National Night Out to raise funds, that will be happening very soon.

“Often times we meet people who are at their very bottom and feel as though they have no hope of a brighter future,” says Tara Pariso, Executive Director at South Brevard Sharing Center.

“Being able to share with these folks that there is an entire community rooting for and wanting to support them allows us to help them see that there is hope and they are cared about.”

This family is just one of many who have been positively impacted by the South Brevard Sharing Center. In August the Sharing Center was able to help Todd, a client who had been homeless for fourteen years, move into a home. Donations and support from the community helped contribute to this milestone in Todd’s life.

Co-founder of the Verdi EcoSchool and Founder of the Hey, Blue! Initiative, John Verdi stated, “A collaborative effort between the Hey, Blue! Initiative and the Melbourne Police Department, this donation to the South Brevard Sharing Center harnesses the power of the community to make real, meaningful change in the lives of the individuals who need it the most.

They are thankful for this incredible cooperative effort and we are proud to be able to build connections between police officers and the communities they serve.”
