Your ultimate nightmare might just come true when you have a gig coming up, and it just happens to be during the flu season.

As a singer, it’s important to take all the necessary precautions so that you can avoid getting the flu at all costs. There’s nothing worse than singing when you’re all stuffed up and it’s important to know how to treat it, but even more so important to know how to prevent it. No one wants to perform and be unable to give their A-game.

This is why we’re going to provide you with 6 preventative tips that are sure to keep the cold and flu far far away from your singing career!

1. USE A HUMIDIFIER INDOORS

A lot of singers use this trick to take care of their voices and to keep the cold and flu away. Using a humidifier in your indoor spaces means that the air stays moist, and by doing so you lessen the risk of catching a cold.

But the most important thing you need to do when you get a humidifier for your indoor spaces is that you must keep it clean, and do so on a daily basis so that it doesn’t accumulate dust and dirt, which can harbor bacteria.

Change the water on a daily basis as well, and you’re good to go!

2. HERBAL TEA

There are a lot of herbal teas that are soothing for the throat in case you feel it getting a bit scratchy. Having herbal tea, in general, is great because most of them have antioxidant properties, which will help in keeping the flu away.

Making your herbal tea from fresh ingredients is even better than getting the teabag, but they will suffice if you’re unable to get them fresh. Even have black tea is advisable because this too helps to keep the cold away.

Even if you’re just drinking water this goes a long way in keeping your voice nice and clean, and you avoid getting any kind of cold symptoms this way.

4. KEEP YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM STRONG

The best way to keep the cold and flu away is to ensure that your immune system is strong and that it stays that way. You should go to a nutritionist to understand what your body may be deficient in so that you can make up for it by eating the right kind of food and also by taking supplements for vitamins and minerals. By taking care of your body, you have a greater chance of avoiding the cold and flu.

5. KEEP YOUR THROAT CLEAN

Keep your throat clean to keep the bacteria and infections away. A great and easy way to do this is to gargle warm salt water every night before you go to bed, and in the morning as soon as you wake up.

6. CLEAN HANDS

Our hands are the number one transporters of all things infectious. This is why it’s important that you wash your hands as often as you possibly can.

If you don’t have access to water, you can always have a sterilizer on you at all times. Make this a habit so that you keep your hands clean at all times, and don’t forget to keep your nails clipped because this is where all the dirt loves to sit!

A singer’s worst enemy is a cold or flu, because it affects their ability to perform and alters their voice, if not taking it away entirely.

This is why it’s so important that you make sure to take all kinds of preventative measures during the cold and flu season so that you can stay well away with having to deal with it in the first place.
