62-Year-Old Merritt Island Man Struck and Killed in Traffic Crash On U.S. Highway 1 in Sharpes

Incident happened Sunday Evening about 6:45 p.m.

A 62-year-old Merritt Island man was struck and killed in a traffic incident at U.S. Highway 1 and Williams Point Boulevard Sunday Evening about 6:45 p.m.

BREVARD COUNTY • SHARPES, FLORIDA – A 62-year-old Merritt Island man was struck and killed in a traffic incident at U.S. Highway 1 and Williams Point Boulevard Sunday Evening about 6:45 p.m.

The victim has not yet been identified pending notification of next-of-kin.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Don Whidden, 66, of Cocoa was traveling southbound on U.S. 1 in a 2000 Ford pickup truck and struck the victim who was crossing U.S. 1 or standing in the roadway.

The victim was transported to Rockledge Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said the crash remains under investigation.
