BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – On the final day of the Florida Tech Holiday Classic, the women’s basketball team took on the Gorillas of Pittsburg State. The Panthers did what they could but Pittsburg State’s offense overpowered the women and they found themselves on the losing end of the 62-78 score line.

Aniquah Swan put on a show as the senior tallied a game-high 21 points and was two rebounds away from a double double. Fanny Hakanson found herself atop the team’s assist tally as she managed to dish out four dimes and had 10 points.

Poor shooting in the first half marred Florida Tech while the opposite was the case for Pittsburg State as the shooting percentages were 36 and 50 respectively. The first quarter was relatively even for the first half of the 10 minutes as the teams traded baskets. However, a 10-2 Gorilla’s outburst that lasted till the buzzer made it 23-11.

Pittsburg States hot streak continued into the second as Florida Tech had no answer for them and this lead to a 10-point scoring difference in the quarter. Therefore, Tech went into the locker room down, 20-42.

This large deficit did not kill the Panthers fight though as they opened the second half on a 7-2 run. The two teams then began to trade baskets for the next few minutes but Florida Tech ended the quarter with four straight points from Cheyenne Scott. This put the tally at 38-56 as the game entered its final 10 minutes.

The fourth started with the teams taking turns going on short runs. However, that changed when exploded with a 10-point Tech run brought it back within 15. Unfortunately, the women simply ran out of time as time expired and the final score was 62-78.
