A 38-year-old man has died in Merritt Island after he crashed his pickup truck into a water-filled ditch off N. Courtney Parkway on Merritt Island. STAY TUNED TO SPACE COAST DAILY FOR UPDATES

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The man who died in a Merritt Island crash has been identified as 38-year-old Fernando Lopez Palacios from Melbourne, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers say they recovered the vehicle around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday after the driver crashed his pickup truck into a water-filled ditch off N. Courtney Parkway on Merritt Island.

Investigators have utilized surveillance video to conclude that the crash took place around 1:22 a.m. on Sunday.

Troopers say they do not yet know what caused the man to lose control of the vehicle.

The identity of the victim will be released once the family has been properly notified.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
