BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – State Attorney’s Office is warning residents about telephone scam where people are posing as employees of the State Attorney and telling them they are facing prosecution for fraud.

The scammers are demanding $250 for a case to be dropped.

Investigators say if the victim refuses to pay, the scammers mention a warrant would be issued for their arrest.

“While this type of Impostor Scam is common, be assured the Office of the State Attorney will never call you in an attempt to collect a fine, threaten to issue a warrant, or offer to resolve a criminal complaint,” said Todd Brown of the State Attorney’ Office 18th Judicial Circuit.

“If you receive this type of call, hang up! Then call your local law enforcement agency and report the crime.”
