Ten Students Charged After Altercation at Palm Bay Magnet High School

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Ten students and an adult were charged in relation to an altercation at Palm Bay High School on Tuesday, according to a release from the Melbourne Police Department. 

Police say two female students engaged in a fight just before 1 p.m. and add that one of the girls attacked a school resource officer when they attempted to break it up.

The MPD adds that following the initial altercation, other students began to fight.

In addition, an adult female relative of a student that was involved in the incident caused by what police term a “significant verbal disturbance” with other students.

Police say they asked the woman repeatedly to leave school property. When she refused she was taken into custody in relation to disrupting a school function.

Officers from the Palm Bay and West Melbourne Police Departments along with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office helped to assist with efforts to restore order at the school, the MPD said.

The ten students face a variety of charges including battery on a law enforcement officer, disrupting a school function, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

“The school did not go on a lockdown or a shelter in place,” said Brevard County Schools spokesperson Nicki Hensley.
