BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — A Brevard County jury returned a guilty verdict late Tuesday in a 2017 case of attempted murder. The defendant, Kenna Bacon, 32, now faces life in prison and will be sentenced on March 25.

According to Cocoa police, Bacon has a lengthy criminal history that includes eight felony convictions for drugs, and other violent crimes.

This case of attempted murder happened on November 11, 2017, as patrol officers responded to a reported shooting at the Dolphin Apartments, located at 619 Peachtree Street.

“Officer Luis Hernandez was among the first officers to arrive on the scene and found a victim who appeared to have been shot multiple times,” said Cocoa Police Department spokesperson Yvonne Martinez

“Hernandez immediately applied a tourniquet to the victim’s left leg to slow the bleeding, and this quick action was credited with saving the victim’s life.”

According to police, the investigation revealed the identities of two suspects.

Witnesses identified Bacon as one of the two shooters., and the second accused shooter, Rashad Henderson, who is being held without bond pending trial, of which no date has been set.

Detectives presented physical evidence, witness testimony and the statements provided by the victim immediately after the shooting and obtained arrest warrants for both suspects.

“We had a strong case that now has the potential to keep this individual off the streets for good,” said Detective Oscar Pimentel who led the investigation.

“This is an individual who will no longer be a threat to our citizens.”
