As of today, there are about five billion mobile phone users in the world, according to research by America’s cancer research center. 400 million of mobile phone subscribers are in the US.

That is a large population, obviously, and a good business for various telecommunication companies. But can we say the same for users who find immense applications for mobiles phones such that they are addicted to it? Maybe not.

Mobile phones, with their large number of global circulations, emit radio waves, from non-ionizing radiation from their antenna.

Body parts nearest to a cell phone’s antenna can absorb the emitted energy from the phones. Considering this with a large number of cell phones in the world, do we then go about finding a radiation shield in the bid to protect ourselves?

For people particular about their health, they keep asking, how do I protect myself from mobile phone radiation? Well, here are some tips to consider that might help.

1. Go hands-free:

Hands-free devices such as Rokform’s motorcycle phone mount, earphones, earbuds, headsets, phone speakers would inhibit you from exposure to cell phone radiation.

During calls, heads are brought close to the antenna area, where emission occurs from. Making calls with a hands-free device will reduce the exposure to these emissions. Texting is also a better to consider.

2. Turn off phones at night:

Some research has it that humans are most vulnerable to toxins and air radiation at night. Over 80% of mobile phone users sleep with their phones within their reach, and only a small fraction of the number switches off their phones when sleeping. To reduce the risk of mobile phone radiation, turn off phones at night. It may also help you to sleep better.

3. Get radiation shield for phone

There are technology companies that now develop solutions for phones to protect them from releasing electromagnetic frequencies that can affect users. You can get the radiation shield for your phone; they will tremendously help to reduce the effect.

4. Choose Lower SAR

Every phone has a specific absorption rate (SAR). This is the maximum amount of radiation that a user’s body absorbs from a mobile phone during transmission.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States is responsible for the regulation of the value. You can specifically choose phones with lower SAR values to stay healthy.

5. Avoid using phones in limited signal/network zone

Mobile phones work harder when there is no/a weak network signal. Hence, when you are in such zones, do not make use of your mobile phone.

Alternatively, you could put your phone on “Flight” mode, such that it does not send out radio waves in the bid to connect to a network.

On a final note, be careful only to use your phone when it matters. As much as possible, keep babies away from mobile phones.

If they don’t have business with a phone, don’t let them have it; babies’ brains and tissues are vulnerable to radiation emissions. Remember, stay safe. Stay protected.
