'Gifts from the Heart' Helps Foster Families

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – It’s an important role Mary has welcomed with open arms and a warm heart for the past four years.

Already a family of three with a little boy, Mary and her husband have always wanted to give back.

That’s what they’ve done as Brevard Family Partnership foster parents – giving children in need the attention and love they require at a young age.

“It was never of a question of should we.  It was always when will we,” Mary said.

Throughout the years, they’ve fostered two sisters as well as a four-day-old baby girl who is now their adoptive daughter.

Mary is all too familiar with helping other kids in need. She was blessed to have two adopted sisters when she was a child. She’s also familiar with the challenges that adding new family members can bring.

Those burdens aren’t so heavy around Christmas, thanks to Health First’s annual toy drive that benefits Brevard Family Partnership families.

“It has alleviated a lot of stress financially, and just provides encouragement to know these kids are getting what they need from all kinds of loving hearts in the community,” Mary said.

Health First’s toy drive is just one of several that help almost 100 other families like Mary’s.

“We’re able to load up the back seat of our car with gifts for all four children,” Mary said.

The act of giving doesn’t stop there. Mary said they were able to send some of the gifts to their foster children’s biological family to give them on Christmas day.

It’s gifts from the heart that make sure every child has something to call their own.

“I’m really grateful Health First and other organizations took the time to do these toy drives,” Mary said. “They really make a big difference.”
