No. 1 Gulf Coast Edges Eastern Florida Women’s Basketball 82-79 at Lady Jets Holiday Classic

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s basketball team battled No. 1 Gulf Coast State College right down to the final seconds on the final day of the Lady Jets Holiday Classic.
The Titans, who are No. 25 in the NJCAA Division I poll, fell short to the Commodores 82-79 Monday afternoon in Americus, Georgia.
Down 43-37 at halftime, the Titans came storming back in the third quarter behind Mercy Gonzalez basket and foul that cut the lead to two and then huge 3-pointers by Anja Knoflach and Stephanie Torres gave the Titans the lead. They would finish the third quarter all tied up, 62-62.
The two teams traded big shots throughout the fourth quarter and anther Torres 3-pointer with 2:10 left in the game tied things at 79-79, but Gulf Coast would hang on for the win and remain unbeaten at 13-0.
For the game, the Titans hit 15 3-pointers, shooting 50 percent from the 3-point line.
Torres finished with a game-high 24 points, hitting six of her seven 3-pointers Teammate Jacquelyn Levay had five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points off the bench. Skye Williams had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Titans.
Eastern Florida State College will return to Titan Field House Saturday afternoon, hosting ASA Miami at 2 p.m. Admission to games at Titan Field House is free of charge.
