Police have arrested and charged 39-year-old Terry Jermaine Johnson following a vehicle chase in Melbourne on Friday evening.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Police have arrested and charged a man after they say he led them on a vehicle chase that ended with his truck hitting a police vehicle that struck multiple officers.

According to a release from the Melbourne Police Department, 39-year-old Terry Jermaine Johnson faces charges of fleeing and attempting to elude with four counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on law enforcement officers, two counts of aggravated battery with a motor vehicle on police officers and one count each of fleeing and attempting to elude with public disregard, reckless driving, possession of marijuana 20 grams or greater, possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.

Melbourne Police say they pulled over the suspect, who was driving a truck, just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday on University Blvd. in reference to a window tint violation.

Soon after, the suspect is alleged to have attempted to back the truck into the officers.

That prompted a chase that police allege included the driver attempting to hit two Melbourne police officers. The chase eventually ended when police say the driver was unable to negotiate a stretch of Stack Blvd. and hit a curb.

As officers got out of their cars to apprehend the suspect, they say that the driver accelerated the truck, which then struck the police vehicle and, subsequently, the officers.

Shortly after, the suspect was taken into custody.
