BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA –  Melbourne Police have released video from a portion of a vehicle chase on Friday that ended with a 39-year-old man arrested and charged.

According to a release from the Melbourne Police Department, Terry Jermaine Johnson faces charges of fleeing and attempting to elude with four counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on law enforcement officers.

Johnson is also charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a motor vehicle on police officers and one count each of fleeing and attempting to elude with public disregard, reckless driving, possession of marijuana 20 grams or greater, possession of cocaine and possession of paraphernalia.

Melbourne Police say they pulled over the suspect, who was driving a truck, just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday on University Blvd. in reference to a window tint violation.

Soon after, the suspect is alleged to have attempted to back the truck into the officers.

That prompted a chase that police allege included the driver attempting to hit two Melbourne police officers. The chase eventually ended when police say the driver was unable to negotiate a stretch of Stack Blvd. and hit a curb.

As officers got out of their cars to apprehend the suspect, they say that the driver accelerated the truck, which then struck the police vehicle and, subsequently, the officers.

Shortly after, the suspect was taken into custody.

Johnson is currently being held without bond in the Brevard County Jail.
