10-Year-Old Boy Riding Bicycle Airlifted to Orlando Hospital After Collision with Vehicle in Cocoa

A 10-year-old boy was flown to an Orlando hospital after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon. According to witnesses, the child was on his bicycle and ended up riding into oncoming traffic and was hit by an SUV.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — A 10-year-old boy was flown to an Orlando hospital after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon.

According to Cocoa Police Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez, at approximately 4 p.m. Monday, patrol officers responded to 401 S. Varr Avenue after dispatchers received 911 calls reporting a child had been hit by a vehicle.

According to witnesses, the child was on his bicycle and ended up riding into oncoming traffic and was hit by an SUV.

“The driver of the SUV was cooperative,” said Martinez.  “The child was alert and crying when rescuers arrived on scene.”

The child suffered a leg injury and was flown to the hospital due to his age and nature of the injury.
