BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – This week, I had the pleasure of recognizing Enterprise Elementary School student, Katrina Pridgen, as the recipient of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office “Great Kids” Award.

Katrina is a Sixth Grader who went the extra distance to help another student, fourth-grader Lucas McClure who lost control of his bike, crashing onto the cement.

Lucas was hurt, scared and somewhat disoriented so Katrina immediately took control assessing his injuries, sending for assistance, and helping him get situated.

Throughout the incident, Katrina never lost focus or became overwhelmed. Katrina is a wonderful leader and role model and was nominated for the award by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputy, Corporal Marian Schwenn.

This week I also had the honor of recognizing R.L Stevenson Elementary Sixth Grader, Khloe Soboczynski, as the recipient of another “Great Kids” Award.

Khloe has volunteered a considerable number of hours assisting a non-profit organization, “Walk on Water” a local organization that is dedicated to providing people the opportunity to bond with horses for therapeutic purposes.

Khloe volunteers in excess of 10 hours a week by aiding as a stable hand, grooming and tending to the animals.

Not only does Khloe volunteer her time in service to the community, she also demonstrates a sincere eagerness to learn during class lessons and is always willing to help others and her teacher!!

Khloe was nominated by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputy, Corporal Curtis Brooks.

The “Sheriff’s Great Kid” Award was created by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to recognize kids in our schools and community that are doing it right by helping others, being respectful, showing great character and of course, working with their teachers to make a difference.

Unfortunately, the kids that don’t do it right seem to be the ones who get the most attention, so the concept of this program is to recognize the good kids for their behavior and to let others know how important it is to always try and do the right thing!!

Please join me in congratulating Katrina and Khloe for being “Great Kids” and also in thanking their parents for attending this week’s presentations!!

And of course, in also thanking our teachers and school administrators for all they do to make sure Brevard’s students have the best environment in the country to learn and grow in!
