Cocoa finishes the year with a 26-4 record

Cocoa’s girls basketball team finished the year with a 26-4 record after Jacksonville Bishop Kenny defeated the Tigers 52-40 in the teams’ FHSAA Class 4A state semifinal contest in Lakeland on Thursday. (Mark Carstens image).

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Jacksonville Bishop Kenny defeated Cocoa 52-40 in the teams’ FHSAA Class 4A state semifinal contest in Lakeland on Thursday.

Cocoa 14-9 after one quarter of play but ultimately ceded the led in the second quarter as the Crusaders held a 24-21 halftime advantage.

Bishop Kenny outscored the Tigers 18-7 in the third quarter, building a 14-point lead going into the fourth quarter that Cocoa was unable to overcome.

Cocoa finishes the year with a 26-4 record.

Bishop Kenny improves to 22-9 on the season and will face Lake Highland Prep, which defeated Ft. Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons 62-35 on Thursday, in the Class 4A State Championship Game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
