BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team moved into second place in the Mid-Florida Conference with a win over Daytona State College Saturday at Titan Field House.
The Titans got off to a fast start behind Jonathan Ned, whose third 3-pointer in the first six minutes gave the Titans an 18-2 lead. Eastern Florida State College would see the lead shrink before halftime as Daytona State College finished on an 11-2 run in the final 5:41 to go to halftime trailing 29-22.
Benjamin Agwu Eme would give the Titans a 10-point lead once again with under 15 minutes remaining but the Falcons responded with an 11-0 run to take the lead 39-38 with 11:10 remaining.
Osayi Osifo hit both free throws and then grabbed an offensive rebound and put it in to give the Titans a three-point lead, 42-39. Daytona State College would take the lead one more time with 8:12 remaining but Ned made a basket and was fouled, completing a three-point play to give the Titans the lead back. From there the Titans led the rest of the way, picking up their 18th win of the season.
Osifo finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds, marking his seventh double-double of the season. Ned finished with a season-high 21 points in the contest.
The Titans, who are 7-4 in the conference and 18-11 overall, honored their seven sophomores after the game. Osifo, Ned, Johnny Bernard, Kaleb Price, Mikal Starks, Calvin Poulina and Noah Louis played their final regular-season game at Titan Field House Saturday.
The team will finish the regular season Wednesday at Santa Fe and will host a conference playoff game Feb. 24 or 25.
