Florida Tech Defeats Lindenwood 5-4 To Receive First Baseball Win of the 2020 Campaign

Panthers recorded five runs, eight hits, and five extra-base hits in seven innings

Florida Tech baseball played its first doubleheader game of the season against Lindenwood. The Panthers battled in the first game of the day and were able to take down a tough Lions team 5-4. Tech in the second game, was not able to earn a win as the Lions took down the Panthers 12-0.  (FIT Image)

BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA – Florida Tech baseball played its first doubleheader game of the season against Lindenwood. The Panthers battled in the first game of the day and were able to take down a tough Lions team 5-4. Tech in the second game, was not able to earn a win as the Lions took down the Panthers 12-0. 

Tech in the first game, recorded five runs, eight hits, and five extra-base hits in seven innings of play.

Joey Hecht made his first start as a Panther in game one. The junior pitched 4.1 innings allowing five hits, two runs, four walks, and three strikeouts. The winning pitcher for the Panthers was junior Alex Carpenter, who pitched 1.2 innings allowing just one hit and no runs in his first outing as a Panther.

The hero of the game, Jake Lane, came in to pitch with one out in the 9th inning. Lane came in with bases loaded and was able to get a weak popped out and a strikeout to end the game and award the Panthers their first victory of the season.

Rodnie Bernard and Jakob Newton collected two hits each. Newton registered two key hits for the Panthers. In the second inning, the senior recorded an RBI double to the right-center field gap scoring Vincenzo Catanza.

Newton did it again in the 6th inning to take the lead 3-2 over the Lions.

Brendan Riley recorded his first hit as a Panther and it came in a very important time. Riley, in the 6th inning, recorded a two-RBI single to add two important insurance runs for the Panthers.

Brett Parrish went 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI, and his first home run of the 2020 campaign.

In the second game, the Panthers were not able to have consistent at-bats throughout the game. Also, the pitching staff was not able to execute against the though Lion lineup in seven innings of play. Tech was only able to obtain one hit from the bat of Blaise Maris in the 4th inning.

The Crimson and Gray will now head to Americus, Ga. to face Georgia Southwestern State at Hurricane Stadium. The game is scheduled for February 5 at 6 p.m.
