Florida Tech Golfer Mac O’Hagan Named SSC Golfer of the Week After Record-Breaking Performance

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA After a record-breaking performance on the course at the Matlock Collegiate Classic last week, senior golfer Max O’Hagan has been named the Sunshine State Conference’s Men’s Golfer of the Week. This is O’Hagan’s fourth career SSC weekly award.

The Surrey, England product had a brilliant week on the links at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, Florida, shooting three straight sub-70 rounds at the par-72, 7,065-yard course. O’Hagan, who won by nine strokes over the runner-up, finished the tournament at -14 and with a total score of 202 (69, 66, 67) to earn the second collegiate victory of his career.

He broke multiple school records along the way, including the lowest 54-hole total (202), best 54-hole score vs. par (-14) and tied the record for career wins (2).

The senior, who is ranked 18th in the nation by GolfStat, led the tournament in par-4 scoring at -9 while pacing the field in birdies (15) and finishing second in total pars (38). He recorded a birdie or par on 53 of the 54 holes over the week – he tapped in a bogey on hole 13 during the opening round on Monday.

O’Hagan’s impressive effort helped guided No. 12 Florida Tech to a second-place finish at the Matlock Classic at with a score of 875 (+11). It marks the best result of the 2019-20 season for the Panthers and now gives the Crimson & Gray three top-7 finishes.

The golf team is back in action this week at the Newberry Invitational hosted at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
