BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Meadowlane Primary Media Specialist Virginia Campbell has nominated guidance counselor Eve Landers as a “Heart of Brevard” candidate.

This is Lander’s second year at Meadowlane Primary. She is one of two guidance counselors on campus.

Lander has, in Campbell’s words, “such a passion for teaching and her role as a guidance counselor.

“We are fortunate because she not only has her degree in counseling but in elementary education as well,” said Campbell.

“She understands the role of the classroom teacher and knows how to support them with their students’ social and emotional needs.”

Since coming to Meadowlane, Landers has established the schools’ positive referral system for students. Teachers are looking for students that are going above and beyond to be recognized.

The teacher fills out a referral form and gives it to a member of the administrative team who then makes a positive phone call home to the child’s parent.

Then, Landers places them in a drawing and draws names each week. Students are recognized on the school’s morning news show and given a prize.

“When watching Eve work with students she is very patient and kind. She is caring and able to de-escalate those kids who are having a difficult time,” said Campbell.

“Our students are young and learning how to be in school and cope socially and emotionally. Eve teaches them classroom counseling lessons to help them learn these important skills.

“She goes above and beyond her role as a guidance counselor. She is present at all our school functions, attends PTO and SAC meetings and serves as our Partner in Education representative. Everyone who meets Eve just loves her. We are so blessed to have her at Meadowlane Primary.”
