Officials Conducting 4,500 Acre Burn at Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge

Brevard County officials are notifying residents that a 4,500 acre burn will be happening at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge near north of SR-406 and west of SR-3.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County officials are notifying residents that a 4,500 acre controlled burn will be happening at the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge today near north of SR-406 and west of SR-3.

There will also be 1130-acre burn happening at the Salt Lake Wildlife Management Area, off of Arch Rd. and west of I-95

Prescribed or controlled burning is a technique used in forest management, farming, or prairie restoration.
