MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech baseball recorded their first series win of the season at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers received a great outing by Boris Villa and defeated the Badgers 14-0 in seven innings of play.

Boris Villa pitched five innings without allowing a run. The Colombian native only allowed two hits, two walks, and recorded four strikeouts.

“You are always looking for ways to win series”, Head Coach Greg Berkemeier said, “so we are very excited for getting a series win this weekend. I was very proud of the guys and the way that they competed today, we got a good start from Boris, something that we needed out of him.”

The Panthers bullpen did not allow a hit. Justin Lorenz and Andrew Dunham pitched an inning each and were able to hold the Badgers scoreless.

“I felt like we received three quality starts this weekend, now we just need to build on those outings. It’s a long season so we just need to keep that in mind and try to get better every day.”

Tech tallied 14 runs, 13 hits, 14 RBI’s, and walked 10 times. Alec Eldridge had an outstanding game going 2-for-4 with two runs and five RBI’s. Eldridge was a big part the Panthers were able to take down the Badgers early in the game. The sophomore hit a base clearing triple down the right-field line in the 3rd inning and allowed the Panthers to add three more runs in the same inning.

Rodnie Bernard recorded 3 RBI’s on his 2-for-4 day and scored a run.

Freshman Brian Lopes and Gabriel Ferrer recorded their first RBI of the season. Ferrer and Lopes’s first RBI of the season came in the 6th inning.

Brendan Riley continues to swing the bat well for the Panthers going 1-for-2 with two RBI’s on the Panther win.
