NICEVILLE • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team lost in the semifinals of the Region VIII/FCSAA State Tournament Friday afternoon in Niceville, Florida.

The Titans lost to No. 12 Tallahassee 49-34 at Northwest Florida State College in the second semifinal.

The teams came into the matchup as two of the best defensive teams in the nation and lived up to the billing. The Titans played some of the best defense of the season in the first half, holding Tallahassee to 19 points on 26.9 percent shooting. But the Titans shot just 27 percent from the floor as well and was down by two points, 19-17 at halftime thanks to a late 3-pointer by Tallahassee.

With 15 minutes remaining in the game, freshman Brian Dugazon hit a floater in the lane and was fouled and then made another runner to give the Titans a 24-21 lead. But Tallahassee found their stroke, hitting five 3-pointers during a 25-2 run that saw a Titans three-point lead turn into a 20-point deficit.

The Titans would continue to battle and a Jonathan Ned 3-pointer made it 49-34. Dugazn finished with seven points while Nick Alves had six.

Eastern Florida State College finishes the season 22-11.
