Second Straight Panther To Receive Award

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For the second straight week, a Panthers’ softball player won the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Presented by Jimmy Johns.

Sophomore Cheyenne Nelson succeeds teammate Ashley Campbell as the award recipient. This is Nelson’s first career SSC Player of the Week.

The Washington native had a career week as she went 9-17 (.529) with seven runs, one RBI, two doubles and her first career home run. She also went 4-4 on steals and defensively had three putouts.

Her impressive play helped power the Panthers to a 4-1 record in the team’s five games.

The outfielder’s best game came in game one of the weekend series against Lynn as she went 3-4 with three runs, one RBI, one home run and two stolen bases plus one defensive putout.

Nelson and the rest of the Crimson & Gray will take the field Thursday, March 5, when they welcome Tiffin to Nancy Bottge Field in the first of three straight days of doubleheaders. Game one of the contest begins at 4 p.m.
