BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In the latest edition of “Sit Down with Steve,” the Friday Night Locker Room’s Steve Wilson sits down with Andy Hanson, who is among the best baseball players to come out of Brevard County, having played for the Astronaut War Eagles in the late 1990s.
Hanson is more than just a former ballplayer. Growing up with a solid background, he comes from a family of educators and clergy.
He is surrounded by a loving and supporting family and was destined to become a leader in whatever field he chose.
After attending the University of North Florida, Hanson decided he wanted to go into education and has served as a physical education teacher at Atlantis Elementary School in Port St. John for the past 17 years.
When asked specifically about teaching, he talks about how special it is to have relationships with, not only his co-workers but “especially the students.” Hanson goes on to say how much he enjoys building bonds with his students and watching them grow.
Yes, Andy Hanson had his share of big base hits while playing for the War Eagles, but in life, he has hit a Grand Slam.
