Choosing which college to attend is something that every teenager looks forward to with excitement. Not only are they choosing an educational institution to study in for the next few years, they’re also choosing which city and which state they decide to spend that time in.

For lots of young people, it’s an opportunity to get away from their home towns and to explore a completely different part of the country.

When it comes to making those choices, Florida’s many colleges are often a very popular choice amongst students from all over the USA.

It’s easy to see why Florida’s colleges are so highly in demand amongst young people nationwide. After all, Florida is a truly unique place to go to college.

No matter which part of the Sunshine State you choose to go to school, you’ll find that the Floridian student experience is unlike that in any other state.

With year-round sunshine, tons of beaches and attractions, a laidback lifestyle and, let’s not forget, some well-respected educational institutions, it isn’t too difficult to see why so many young people choose to come here to study. So, what can you expect if you choose a Floridian further education experience?

Here, we take a closer look at everything you can enjoy if you go to school here and everything that makes the experience stand out from the crowd.

Unpredictable Weather

Perhaps one of the things that students from other states find the hardest to handle is the unpredictable Florida weather. Anyone who has ever had to run across campus without an umbrella during a sudden torrential downpour will know the importance of being prepare for all eventualities.

Yes, it may be called the Sunshine State, but that doesn’t mean that rain doesn’t happen. It does! And it happens a lot, especially in the summer months where there can be thunderstorms every day.

It can take some getting used to, especially when you pair it with the high humidity levels and soaring temperatures. Stickiness and sweat become a fact of life when you go to school in Florida.

There’s nothing quite like studying in an air conditioned classroom and then going outside and feeling as if you’ve just opened the stove door!

Hurricane Season

Between June and November it’s officially hurricane season in Florida, and that can be a scary experience for college students who have to prepare for a storm for the first time.

If you’ve never experienced lines of cars snaking around the block waiting for gas and supermarket shelves that have been emptied of batteries and bottled water, it can be a frightening time.

However, it isn’t all bad. Classes are often canceled for a few days when storms are expected, and some students even host hurricane parties – so it can be a fun time too! After a couple of hurricane seasons, it’ll all become the new normal and you’ll be an old-hand at preparing for a storm.

Amazing Leisure Activities

One of the top reasons to choose a Floridian college has to be the amazing array of ways in which you can enjoy your leisure time.

No matter which Floridian school you decide to attend, you’ll never be more than a drive away from a beach, so when Spring Break comes around you’ll have no difficulty in finding a fun spot to spend your week.

There are plenty of other popular attractions too. The bright lights of Orlando and Disney World are very appealing to college students who are never too old to enjoy a day with the Mouse at the most magical place on Earth!

EPCOT’s food and wine festival is one of the most popular activities for college students to enjoy, eating and drinking their way around the World Showcase!

Looking beyond Disney’s parks, there is University Studios, Gatorland, Sea World, Legoland, Kennedy Space Center and a host of water parks among a wealth of other great visitor spots to entertain students during their downtime.

It’s no wonder that students who attend Florida institutions need to look so hard for the best student loans for college. It may also not be too surprising that the rate of student debt is so much higher in Florida than in most other states when you consider the range of activities to enjoy here.

The state’s outstanding debt from student loans currently stands at around  $90 billion – a figure that has increased by 35% between 2015 and 2018.

If you’re planning to attend a Sunshine State educational institution, you need to make sure you take a sensible approach to money management or you could find yourself owing a serious sum by the end of your studies.
