BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Crystal Gaskin, who began as a part-time advocate for Serene Harbor before moving up to Case Manager, has been promoted to Shelter Director and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the emergency shelter.

For more than 27 years, Serene Harbor has been providing safe, confidential services such as a 24/7 confidential hotline, safety planning, emergency shelter and outreach to over 28,000 women and children right here in Brevard.

Each year the organization touches the lives of over 1,300 survivors and provides more than 6,300 nights of shelter.

Over the last 15 years, Gaskin has dedicated herself to serving victims of domestic violence, working with them to achieve their goals and to transition to safety.

Her duties include maintaining the provision of services to Serene Harbor clients, monitoring children’s plan of action, providing victims with education regarding available programs and community resources, meeting weekly with residents to monitor their progress towards goals, and assisting a team of advocates who work directly with residents.

She also runs groups such as a meal planning group in which residents work as a team to plan and cook meals to enjoy together.

“Crystal has worked for Serene Harbor for 15 years and is a trusted and knowledgeable resource to both staff and our clients,” said Beverly DeMeyer, Serene Harbor President/CEO.

“I am thrilled to have Crystal in this new expanded role of Shelter Director. In this expanded role, Crystal will be responsible for the operations and oversight of the shelter, its programs, facility maintenance, and management of shelter staff.

“Crystal is a natural leader who jumps in where and when needed with no questions asked. Her loyalty and devotion to our cause and those we serve is evident to anyone that knows her. Congratulations on this very deserved promotion Crystal!”
