Titusville Man, 20, Charged with First-Degree Murder for Deadly Shooting in February

The suspected murderer has been identified as 20-year-old Quantay Demaurie Byrom of Titusville.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Police in Titusville have made an arrest in the shooting of 62-year-old Ricky Gilbert of Titusville that happened on February 25 after a brief vehicle pursuit on Thursday night.

The suspected murderer has been identified as 20-year-old Quantay Demaurie Byrom of Titusville.

Police took Byrom into custody Thursday night after a warrant had been issued for first-degree murder and shooting from a vehicle.

An arrest has been made in the shooting of Ricky Gilbert, 62, of Titusville on February 25th 2020, after a brief vehicle pursuit on Thursday night.

The investigation has revealed that Byrom was driving the Hyundai Sonata that shots were fired from during a violent shooting between two rivals in two different vehicles back in February.

Police say Gilbert was an innocent victim who had nothing to do with the feud, and was simply driving down the street when he was shot through his windshield and killed.

“We are continuing to work strong leads, and expect more arrests in this despicable crime,” said Titusville Police Chief John Lau.

“Our detectives are committed to bringing justice for the Gilbert family.”

Byrom was additionally charged with Fleeing & Eluding after he attempted to flee from police in the vehicle he was driving last night.
