BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools recently sent out a survey to help us understand the dynamics created by the COVID-19 crisis.
They understand that this virus has been disruptive to all of us, and it was important for us to gather feedback to make sure we are doing all we can to serve our students and parents with excellence during this unprecedented time.
This information will help Brevard Public Schools continue to refine and improve their processes to ensure the continuity of education during this time.
Parents are doing a phenomenal job in their support of both children and teachers, and we are incredibly thankful for the patience and partnership we have seen during the past couple of months.
Some of the key points from the survey are as follows:
■ BPS parents are juggling a lot at home: 69 percent have one or both parents working from home while overseeing remote instruction.
■ Nearly one-third have lost a job or “significant income.”
■ Our teachers are communicating. More than 80 percent of survey respondents say their children communicate by phone or email with their teachers at least once per week.
■ Flexibility is key. Nearly one-third of parents share a computer needed for remote work with a student who needs the same device for instruction.
