Crosswinds’ Children’s Shelter Receives Great Generosity From Local Contractors

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Crosswinds’ Youth Shelter has received a new roof for their important facility in Cocoa, from two caring and generous Brevard county companies.

Crosswinds’ has provided a temporary home and loving, heartfelt care for thousands of children in Brevard County or decades.

“Crosswinds is very excited and extremely grateful to share the good news about the enormous gift from W&J Construction Corporation and G&G Roofing Inc.,” said Jan Lokay, CEO of Crosswinds.

“The total donation for the new Shelter roof was $61,000 and was made possible because of our introduction to Mr. Erik Costin, Vice President and Operations Manager of W&J Construction Corporation, by former Brevard County Commissioner, Ms. Sue Schmitt.”

The nearly 20-year-old roof was leaking badly and was in need of being replaced. W&J Construction and G&G Roofing provided the majority of shingles for the new roof and G&G Roofing provided all the labor for removal and installation of the new roof.

Several other Brevard businesses also donated materials, including ABC Supplies who provided the underlayment, stick materials, trim metal, flashings and fasteners and Certain Teed who donated a portion of the shingles.

“Brevard is such a caring and generous community and the people here always find a way to help when we really need it,’ said Misty Campbell, Director of Development for Crosswinds’ Youth Services.

The Robert E. Lehton Children’s Shelter was built in late 2001 and since this time, thousands of children in crisis have received emergency residential care, counseling and other supportive services.
