This is a 10 mph reduction in speed on Highway A1A from Pineda Causeway, south to 5th Avenue

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Speed Limit on Highway A1A has been reduced to 35 mph from Pineda Causeway, south to 5th Avenue.

This is a 10 mph reduction in speed.

Additionally, the Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon Crosswalks are in-service, authorities request the public to please be aware and be careful.

The Melbourne Police Department is working with Satellite Beach Police Department Official, City of Indian Harbour Beach Police Department, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Florida (Official), and Indialantic Police Department to provide high-visibility education and enforcement.

This stretch of road includes the area where 12-year-old Sophia Nelson was tragically struck and killed at a mid-block crosswalk in Satellite Beach last December.

Traffic signage depicting the new speed will be posted. Motorists are advised to safely follow posted signs.

These speed limit changes are part of a multifaceted effort to increase safety in high-pedestrian areas along S.R. A1A in Brevard County.
