UPDATE: Police Release Identity of Indian River Drowning Victim as 20-Year-Old Garrett Starr

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Police are investigating the drowning death of 20-year-old Garrett Starr on Saturday.

“The preliminary investigation has revealed the victim (Starr) was attempting to swim to shore from a small disabled boat in the Indian River near Marina Park, located at 501 Marina Road,” said Amy Matthews Titusville Police Department, Public Information Officer.

“Witnesses reported seeing the Starr call for help and go under water around 1:30 p.m.”

Matthews said that within minutes, officers arrived on the scene and began searching for the victim.

Starr’s body was recovered from the water at approximately 4 p.m. by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive team.

This incident remains under investigation by the Titusville Police Department and further details will be released upon its conclusion by investigators.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – The Titusville Fire Department reported a person has died in an incident on the Indian River that began at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Titusville Fire officials said an operation was underway to assist someone in the water in distress and that units on-scene were unable to obtain a visual of the person in the water.

According to Titusville Fire officials, the person reportedly was transitioning from boat to canoe and fell into the water and never surfaced.

Other agencies responding to assist included Florida Fish and Wildlife, Brevard County Sheriff’s Office helicopter and dive team, and Brevard County Fire Rescue.

The identity of the victim and the details of the incident have not yet been released.
