Viera High TV's Gavin Keith earns four awards

The Viera High TV team celebrated another strong, award-winning year at the competition. The 2019-20 VTV Editorial Leadership Board, which consists of 15 top TV production students, has made significant accomplishments among local and broadcast journalism programs in the state. BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Viera High TV celebrated another strong, award-winning year at the competition. The 2019-20 VTV Editorial Leadership Board, which consists of 15 top TV production students, has made significant accomplishments among local and broadcast journalism programs in the state.

The Florida Scholastic Press Association is the state’s premier journalism organization and Viera High TV has been competing since 2007.

Several of the team’s works have achieved Florida’s Best of the Best and All-Florida, which are the highest awards possible.

Viera High TV earned four Best of the Best awards and nine Excellent ratings. In all, VTV received 21 awards in the spring digitals contest.

WINNERS INCLUDED:

■ Best of the Best Demo Reel – Gavin Keith

■ Best of the Best Quick Turn Commercial – Olivia Byrd, Taryn Aebli and Morgan Ogden

■ Best of the Best Broadcast Show Opening – Gavin Keith

■ Best of the Best Special Effects Photo – Cooper Gluskin

In addition to the state competition, the VTV team recently submitted entries for the Brevard Student Film Festival where it garnered 1st place wins in four of the eight categories possible:

■ 1st place News Story – Athletic Health Monitoring (produced by Olivia Roman)

■ 1st place Show Open – VTV News (produced by Gavin Keith)

■ 1st place Montage – Gavin Keith’s Videography Demo Reel (produced by Gavin Keith)

■ 1st place Instructional – Buffalo Chicken Dip (produced by Jessie Dalheim)

Viera High TV was established in 2006 by the Career and Technical Education Office of Brevard Public Schools.

Students enrolled in TV Production courses may enroll in the program from one to four years in high school and learn photography, videography, audio production, graphics, writing, editing, on-air talent and social media.

Emphasis is placed on students learning professional level, real-world skills in live studio production, electronic field production, and video editing.
