SPACE COAST DAILY TV: The Friday Night Locker Room–Space Coast Daily’s Sade Teel talks with Central Florida standout basketball players Nasia Powell and Sydney James. Powell, a junior at Vanguard High School and James a graduating senior at West Port High School were recently announced as Player of the Year in Marion County.
With still one more season at Vanguard, Powell has already committed to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This past season, Powell averaged 24.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.8 rpg and 3.4 spg.
With Powell as their main starter, Vanguard finished 16-9 and reached the second round of the FHSAA Class 5A playoffs.
Powell was also recently announced on the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches 2020 first-team all-state honors. James has committed to Furman University and is on track to start this upcoming season.
During James’ senior year she averaged 21 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 3.6 apg, 3.3 spg and 2.5 bpg. James has earned many accomplishments her last season in high school including James becoming a nominee for the McDonald’s All-American.
