BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – At the June 18 regular council meeting, the Palm Bay City Council voted to award the contract for the construction of the Babcock Street southbound left turn lane and connection to the St. Johns Heritage Parkway to MJC Land Development LLC.

A pre-construction meeting with the contractor to issue the Notice to Proceed (NTP) was held Monday, June 22nd, 2020.

The contractor will have 90 calendar days from the NTP date to complete work on the connection.

Once the Babcock connection is completed, the new segment of the St. Johns Heritage Parkway and the new I-95 interchange will be opened in coordination with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

On April 23, 2020, Palm Bay City Council approved the St. Johns Heritage Parkway and Babcock Street Interlocal Agreement with Brevard County, and the County Right of Way (ROW) permit was issued to the City of Palm Bay on May 1.

The ROW permit allows the City to perform work within Brevard County’s Right of Way along Babcock Street to complete the connection to the St. Johns Heritage Parkway.

The plans for the construction of the Babcock intersection were amended to include the left turn lane expansion as required by the ILA with Brevard County.

A temporary span-wire traffic signal has been installed at the intersection and is ready for power and testing in preparation for the opening of the roadway.

The new segment of the St. Johns Heritage Parkway and southern interchange is expected to open in October 2020. The official opening date will be announced as the project nears completion.
