Teel spoke with Sergeant Alicia Fairley about her reasons for joining the Army.
Fairley said, “At one point I actually reached a standpoint… so you know what I said, I’m going to go somewhere where I know if I work hard, I can get something from it… I’m going to move forward.”
To join the United States Army, you must be between the ages of 17-34 and must have either a high school diploma, GED or 15 college credit hours.
No prior job experience is needed, and Fairley said, “you are going to get your job experience while in the Army.”
The United States Army offers future soldiers more than 150 career opportunities in many different fields such as medical, technology, combat and more.
Teel also spoke with Sergeant Agustin Sandoval, who served as a medic and combat arms for more than 20 years in the U.S. Army.
He describes his reason for joining, as an opportunity he always knew he wanted.
Sergeant Michael Price, who joined at the young age of 17, said he enjoys helping future soldiers. His dad played a big part in why he joined because he saw how successful he was in the military and “how he was as a man.”
Teel also spoke with three future soldiers between the ages of 17 and 18 that will start their military service this month.
They each describe this moment as a nervous one, but one they all said they are proud of.
