BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Mullins visited the Space Coast Daily TV Studios on Wednesday to discuss various topics as schools enter the summer months and prepare to get ready for the fall.

Dr. Mullins mentions some difficult decisions that are ahead on how to deal with COVID-19 for the reopening of schools and what the task force will be looking for to open back up.

Another issue that will be addressed in July will be how BPS will handle the graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020.

Dr. Mullins talked about the new Viera Elementary School that is nearing completion and is on target to be open for the fall.

The waitlist application period has been open since April 13 and will end on July 17, 2020.

The state-of-the-art school will accommodate 970 students in grades K-6 and ease the burden of nearby Quest Elementary, which is well over its maximum enrollment as a result of the considerable growth West Viera has seen in recent years.

The school will be an “open boundary school” – a new concept that will permit students from anywhere in Brevard to enter a lottery to attend.
