One of the most exciting things about David Beckham’s long-mooted Inter Miami project was the question as to whether the former player would bring any of his superstar connections of old to MLS.

There has always been speculation that the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star would aim to bring in the best in the business, and the man himself has even said he wouldn’t rule out moves for Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

The roster at Beckham’s Florida franchise is currently lacking household names, but there are some players that the 1999 Ballon d’Or runner-up may be able to tempt to join in the future.

Zlatan Ibrahimović

For Beckham to get his franchise off the ground and attract fans to watch the games, he will need some serious star power. He needs to follow in the footsteps of Orlando City, for example, who brought in Kaka in 2014.

When you think of celebrity soccer legends who know how to give the fans exactly what they want, Zlatan Ibrahimović is one of the players at the top of the list. Despite the Swedish striker claiming that he turned down an offer to play for Beckham’s franchise in 2016, there could still be a potential deal in the future.

Beckham and Ibrahimović have both played for AC Milan, LA Galaxy, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain. However, they were only ever teammates for half a season at the Parc des Princes club.

The two players have a lot of common, and both made a major impact in the MLS with LA Galaxy. Ibrahimović’s 52 goals in 56 games is one of the most prolific records in the league’s history.

The 38-year-old is back at Milan now, but it feels as though the goal-scoring machine may have a few more years left in him.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Most soccer players’ careers are winding down in their mid-30s, but Cristiano Ronaldo is still at the top of his game and one of the most awe-inspiring strikers in Europe at the age of 35.

The five-time Ballon d’Or recipient is currently leading the line at Juventus, but may end up seeking a move to the MLS when he begins to feel his powers waning.

Despite both spending a number of years at United and Madrid, Ronaldo and Beckham never played in the same team. Ronaldo joined the Old Trafford club just after the Englishman had signed for Los Blancos, and the Euro 2016 winner moved to the Spanish capital two years after Beckham had joined up with the Galaxy.

Sports Mole claims that Ronaldo will join Inter Miami next year if his current side fails to win the Champions League.

The Old Lady are in the last sixteen, but there are some other huge and formidable clubs such as PSG in contention for the top honors.

It looks as though Ronaldo will add at least one more league title while at Juventus Stadium, however. As of June 3, Juventus are -250 with Betway to win their ninth consecutive title.

Edinson Cavani

While Ibrahimović and Ronaldo may be unrealistic options, Edinson Cavani is considered by many to be an attainable target for Beckham’s new franchise.

The Uruguayan sharpshooter has been at PSG since 2013, and played a few matches with Beckham in his first year at the club. Since that time, the powerful forward has notched 138 goals in 200 league appearances.

However, it looks as though Cavani’s time at PSG could be coming to an end.

Cavani has gradually been pushed towards the periphery of Thomas Tuchel’s team by Neymar and Kylian Mbappe since the players joined in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Now that Mauro Icardi has been signed on a permanent deal as well, it seems as though the 33-year-old’s days are numbered.

Cavani’s contract is set to expire in the summer, and PSG are unlikely to trigger an extension. Therefore, the MLS looks like the ideal destination for a player of his age.

It would make sense for Inter Miami to swoop for the player who may be available as a free agent.

With only two professional games played to date, the brand-new MLS franchise is one of the youngest soccer teams in the world. Currently, they are way behind their state rivals Orlando City.

There is no doubt that for Beckham’s Inter Miami to gain some momentum they need some world-famous talent in their ranks. While someone like Ronaldo may seem an unlikely prospect, there is a good chance that they will be able to add Cavani when he leaves PSG.
