COCOA POLICE UPDATE: Two People Killed in Vehicle Crash Tuesday Morning on State Road 524

The Florida Highway Patrol and Cocoa police responded to a fatal vehicle crash about 5 a.m. Tuesday morning on State Road 524 eastbound, just east of Friday Road. According to Yvonne Martinez, Cocoa Police Public Information Officer, one person was killed in the crash involving a vehicle that crashed into a parked semi tractor-trailer. Additional circumstances of the crash, or the identity of the victim, has not yet been released.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Florida Highway Patrol and Cocoa police responded to a fatal vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on State Road 524 eastbound, just east of Friday Road.

According to Yvonne Martinez, Cocoa Police Public Information Officer, two people was killed in the crash involving a vehicle that crashed into a parked semi tractor-trailer.

“The victims of a fatal vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday morning are identified as Emily Wilcox, 19, and Casey Kilton, 38,” said Martinez. “Both were from the unincorporated area of Cocoa.”

At 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from a person reporting a crash resulting in a vehicle fire with two victims trapped inside.

“Cocoa Fire Rescue extinguished the fire within minutes and attempted a rescue, but the victims were already deceased,” said Martinez.

“CPD traffic homicide investigators and detectives responded and the investigation has revealed the vehicle, a 2020 Jeep Cherokee rented and driven by the male victim, was eastbound on SR 524 when, it crashed into the back of a parked semi-tractor trailer which contained a load of apples.”

Detectives are working with family members of the two victims and attempting to determine the circumstances that may have contributed to the crash. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
