BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Thoroughly well-designed and administered, yet convenient and quick, the Doctor of Business Administration Program at Florida Institute of Technology’s Nathan M. Bisk College of Business offers students the opportunity to attain their career goals with the help of an advanced degree from a highly respected university.

Accredited, not-for-profit and research-intensive Florida Tech is ranked a Tier One Best National University by U.S. News & World Report and is listed as one of the Top 20 among small universities in the world by Times Higher Education.

The school has also earned kudos as one of the nation’s best universities for return on investment.

Florida Tech’s DBA Program is popular among students who want to shine above the crowd.

“Students seek to attain the Florida Tech DBA for a number of reasons, but most specifically for career advancement or transition into higher education,” said Dr. Emily Martinez-Vogt, chair of the program.

“The quality of our site-based program is the reason why it is so highly regarded.”

The 42-credit-hour program can be completed in less than three years through an intensive series of classes that meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for four weekends per semester for the first four semesters and then continue meeting from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays once a month for four more semesters.

Classes are held at the College of Business, part of the main campus of Florida Tech in Melbourne.

After the core classes, the program culminates on the final year with dissertation research that offers students the opportunity to enhance their breadth of knowledge on business-relevant subjects that best aligns with career goals. A five-chapter dissertation follows completion of research.

“As a doctoral candidate, you also learn to conduct rigorous research including your own dissertation on a business topic of your choosing,” said Dr. Jonathan Reed, part of the DBA Class of 2020 and president of Strategy First Consulting Group.

“I highly recommend the program for experienced professionals who are seeking to move beyond the MBA level, advance their business careers or consider a role in academia.”

Earning a DBA benefits students both in earning potential and in career satisfaction by positioning them for rewarding, top-level, high-paying leadership positions in industry and academia.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for chief executives was $193,850 in 2019. Common career paths for DBAs include senior managerial consultants, chief executive officers, operations managers, college professors and business training professionals.

“The Florida Tech DBA program was a perfect fit for me,” said Dr. Marshall Jones, member of the DBA Class of 2019.

“I was already teaching and conducting applied research in academia but did not have a terminal degree. The DBA not only allowed me a path to earn my doctorate, but the discipline was flexible enough to allow me to focus my dissertation research in areas in which I was versed and interested.”

The program utilizes a cohort approach that affords unparalleled learning experiences from faculty experienced in the field, as well as the unique opportunity to learn from fellow students.

“The cohort style was also a plus and allowed us, as a group, to share and learn from one another’s various perspectives and experiences,” added Dr. Jones.

“We learned from, and leaned on, one another through the program. Those valuable peer feedback and critiques have continued after graduation. I felt a great sense of accomplishment to earn my DBA.”

The student body reflects a vibrant diversity that ranges in age from 35 to 60 and encompasses a wide variety of backgrounds. While many students live in Central Florida, some travel in for classes from seven states. These professionals, many from the government and defense sectors, typically already have 10 years of work experience. They share one common thread.

“Students are full-time working professionals from a variety of sectors, all of which hold positions in upper-level management,” said Dr. Martinez-Vogt.

The DBA program faculty, leaders in the field, hold terminal degrees and are deeply involved in scholarly research and writing.

Small class size not only allows for specialized attention from professors but also enables students to build a network of business professionals and colleagues who often become lifelong friends.
