Lynn University men’s basketball head coach Jeff Price and his colleagues have signed Montez Leath as the first new addition to the Fighting Knights’ 2020-21 recruiting class.
Leath, a product of Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala, Florida earned many awards during his senior year and earned 1,000 points in his prep career.
The 6-foot guard earned more than five local and statewide awards during the 2018-2019 season including, FACA Class 5A District 7 Player of the Year and First Team All-State.
Leath said that Lynn first recognized him at an AAU tournament while in high school and he was playing against one of their recruits.
At the time, Lynn did not have any open spots for another guard.

Leath said not going straight to college to play basketball out of high school left him very “skeptical” but he had hoped if he stayed focused and kept working hard an opportunity would present itself.
“We’re very excited to welcome Montez to our program,” said Price. “He embodies our culture at Lynn University of spirit, service, and strength, and we expect him to make an immediate impact on the court.”
The Lynn Fighting Knights are in the NCAA Division II and ended overall 12-15 in the 2019-2020 season.
Leath said he would tell any other basketball player that is struggling or wanting to give up on their dream of playing college basketball to be patient.
“Keep working towards your dream,” said Leath. “An opportunity is bound to come you just have to be willing to work hard.”
