When you have a house it is important to recognize when you need to replace something. It is especially important to maintain your plumbing, as water damage can result in severe damage to your home.

You may have several faucets in your home, including the bathrooms and kitchen. Large families often spend a lot of time in the kitchen, making this one of the most used faucets in the house.

You can easily spot the signs of an aging kitchen sink. A plumber can have you back in the kitchen quickly with a new kitchen faucet

Water with Bad Smell or Taste

If you notice a smell from your kitchen water that does not happen in other rooms, your faucet or pipes may have too much wear. Over time they begin to break down and rust can get into your water.

A plumber can often assess the problem and complete a faucet repair in a short visit. If you have other problems contributing to the problem, your plumber may need more time to complete the repair.

Leaks

You may notice leaks from several places if your kitchen faucet needs replacing. Water can drip from the faucet, even after you turn it off. The base of the faucet may also leak, causing water to pool onto your counters.

This can also leak from underneath the faucet, causing water damage to the wall and cabinets. Water leaks can lead to unhealthy mold, as well.

Compromised Water Pressure

It can take longer to rinse your hands or dishes if your water pressure becomes low. If you notice low pressure in the kitchen, check the other faucets in your house, as well.

If the entire house has low water pressure, call your water company to find out why. If it is only one sink, you may need to replace the faucet.

The problem may persist due to corrosion and hard water buildup inside the valve. A new faucet may solve the problem immediately.

Mold

If you begin to smell mold or see it forming in your kitchen, check the faucet for leaks. You may also have a leak from pipes in the wall. A small leak from your kitchen sink may go unnoticed for several weeks. The water can soak into wood cabinets underneath the sink.

This can lead to mold growth before you ever see the water dripping. Check the cabinet under your sink regularly to avoid major damage. A new sink with updated tubing can solve this problem quickly.

When you know the signs to look for, you can prevent severe water damage to your home. Once you learn what to look for, it is easy to check your sink regularly for problems. Some kitchen faucets can last up to 20 years. You may need some maintenance during this time,  however.

A reputable plumber can help you maintain and replace your kitchen faucet. If you notice a bad smell, low water pressure, or mold, call your plumber immediately for a repair.
