Space Coast Symphony Concerts Will Celebrate the Strength, Resilience of Our Community

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins hopes people will attend to soak up some wonderful music and help show their appreciation for healthcare workers, during the opening concerts of the special summer series.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Remember how fun the drive-in used to be? Cars would spread out and passengers would settle in for an evening of relaxed entertainment.

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is creating a musical version of the drive-in experience with six fresh air concerts to celebrate the strength and resilience of the Treasure and Space Coasts.

The series kicks off Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11 with On Broadway, a symphonic concert of Broadway’s best.

The concert will salute health care workers and first responders with time-honored Broadway numbers from Phantom of the Opera, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof, Jesus Christ Superstar and other favorites.

The special concerts in the Treasure Coast Strong and Space Coast Strong Summer Series will all be “drive-up” outdoor events, to provide for healthful airflow and adequate room for social distancing.

Musicians will play their instruments safely separated from each other by acrylic barriers, while concert attendees can remain in their cars or set up their own seating next to their vehicles.

Each concert will honor a different segment of the Central Florida community, for sacrifices made to keep our American spirit strong. All Treasure Coast drive-up concerts will be performed on Fridays at 7 p.m. at Pathway Church, 1105 58th Avenue in Vero Beach.

All Space Coast drive-up concerts will be performed on Saturdays at 7 p.m. at The Avenue Viera(east side parking area), 2261 Town Center Avenue in Melbourne. Tickets for the drive-up concerts are $10 per person or $25 per carload of adults at spacecoastsymphony.org

Admission is free for ages 18 and under or with a student ID. Advance online ticket sales are encouraged, to help limit social interaction with parking attendants.

“We can’t begin to express our thanks to the health professionals who continue to do so much for American families, said Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins. With this concert, we will say thank you the way we know best – by playing great music; some of Broadway’s best-loved show tunes.”

The summer drive-up concerts will continue on August 14 and 15, when the SCSO Wind Band presents Sweet Land of Liberty. The red, white and blue concert will honor all those who have worn our nation’s uniform as well as our defense workers.

Filled with jaunty marches, anthems and American-inspired themes, the annual patriotic concert is always a crowd favorite.

The special series concludes August 28 and 29 with Broadway Gender Bender, a celebration of the essential workers in restaurants, groceries, pharmacies and hotels who stayed on the job –so that others could stay home.

In addition, it’s a tip of the hat to teachers and educators who found ways to inspire their students during distance learning.

The Broadway songs all feature a fun twist, sung by a member of the opposite gender! For more information on the Treasure Coast Strong and Space Coast Strong Summer Series, please visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org or call toll-free 855-252-7276.
