Tropical Storm Isaias Grows in Strength, Projected to Impact Brevard County by Sunday

Tropical Storm Isaias registering 60 mph max sustained winds

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Tropical Storm Isaias continues to grow in strength as it moves through Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, according to the latest National Hurricane Center report.
The latest path projection has Isaias impacting the Space Coast as a Tropical Storm on Sunday.
The system is currently carrying 60 mph max sustained winds and moving to the northwest at 20 mph.
Experts with the National Hurricane Center project Isaias will move over Hispaniola today and move near the Southeastern Bahamas by tonight into early Friday.
The Tropical Storm will move near the Central Bahamas Friday night and approach southern Florida Friday night and Saturday.
Isaias is expected to slightly weaken as it moves over Hispaniola today. However, it is forecasted regain strength Friday, heading into Friday night.
At this time, there are no Tropical Storm Warnings or Watches in effect for Florida. A Tropical Storm Watch could be administered tonight for Florida, including Brevard County.
If the current path of Isaias continues as is, Brevard County could see 70 mph winds on Sunday with tropical storm-force winds arriving around Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening
For Isaias to be labeled a Category 1 hurricane it must reach max sustained 74 mph
Florida will begin to feel the impact by Saturday, while other parts of east coast of the United States could be impacted by Isaias next week.
