BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The City of Rockledge has issued a state of local emergency order that strongly urges face masks and coverings beginning on Monday.

The order is set to go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, July 13.

In a video released over social media, Mayor Tom Price said, “From day one of the pandemic, I assumed all of the cities in Brevard County were going to stay on the same page. But I am disappointed to learn and it appears that several have decided to go on their own way. Rockledge has decided to have our own policy as well. Florida has now become the epicenter for the COVID-19 virus and positive testing has risen to 20-percent from 6-percent. It is our goal in Rockledge to protect everyone. However, our priority is to protect our senior citizens age 65 and above.

At this time, we will not mandate wearing a mask. However, we highly encourage everyone to help wear a mask to help protect themselves and everyone around them when out in public. I personally ask you to wear a mask in the grocery stores and drug stores as these are two areas senior citizens frequent most.”
