BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – It was move-in day for Eastern Florida State College student-athletes who began moving into the new Residence Hall on the Melbourne campus.

One of the first to arrive was men’s basketball player Benjamin Agwu Eme and he could not believe how nice the new facilities are.

“This is a great day, I came in expecting something modest, but this is five-star treatment. We are blessed to have something like this,” the sophomore from Nigeria said.

“We had the apartments which were amazing, but this is beyond anything we could expect. I will take pictures and send to the guys from last year and tell them they missed out. This is great, look at the rooms, the bathroom, the view. A year ago, all this was grass and now it is beautiful. It is like a hotel, a fancy hotel. I am so thankful to the school for building this and still having scholarships despite COVID, I am absolutely grateful.”

The 96-bed facility is divided into suites consisting of four individual bedrooms, two shared bathrooms, a shared kitchen and a common living space.

“It is definitely cool, switching from the apartments to these is really nice. You are right on campus so you have easy access to the gym and everything else on campus,” volleyball player Cassandra Gregory said.

“I love it, it is brand new. Everything is so nice. It is so cool.”

The student-athletes will continue to move into the new housing facility throughout this week and after passing a second round of required COVID testing will meet with trainers to be cleared to begin working out.

Titan Field House will be closed except for practices, meeting with trainers and weight room sessions for the fall season.

“I haven’t lived the dorm life yet, so I am excited about living with three of my teammates – think it is going to be a blast,” baseball player Tyler Vogel said.

“It’s going to be a fun year, excited to getting back on the field and classes and getting into a routine again.”

Other EFSC students accepted for housing through the application process will move into the residence hall beginning Aug. 11 in preparation for Fall Term classes, which are scheduled to begin Aug. 17.

Safety protocols are in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including a requirement for masks in the facility’s elevators, hallways and common areas.

Students also have been advised to practice social distancing in their suites, with masks recommended but not required in their own rooms.
