Bridging the gap between law enforcement and the youth of our community

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – The Satellite Beach Police Department declared that the students of Satellite Beach are the future and, “we want them to know they can depend on us. We look forward to having a spectacular and safe school year.”
Satellite Beach police officials said the main goal of the SRO is to prevent juvenile delinquency by promoting relations between youth and law enforcement.
“The SRO position encompasses three major components allowing the SRO to achieve this goal – law enforcement, education and counseling,” said SBPD Commander Brad Hodge, a 26-year veteran of the department.
“These three components allow the SRO to take a proactive approach to law enforcement. SRO’s are not just ‘cops’ on campus.
Commander Hodge said officers teach law-related education and other relevant topics, they counsel students on various concerns, provide a safe, secure campus, and are involved in the student’s life as a positive role model.
“The intent is that the positive experiences officers have with the students will bridge the gap between law enforcement and the youth of our community,” said Commander Hodge.
