Titusville Police K9 Tracks Down Suspect After Sudden Snatching Robbery at Convenience Store on South Hopkins Avenue

Titusville police officers arrested 32-year-old Cecil Smart when a TPD K9 tracked him down after a sudden snatching robbery at a convenience store on South Hopkins Avenue early Thursday morning at about 3 a.m.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville police officers arrested 32-year-old Cecil Smart when a TPD K9 tracked him down after a sudden snatching robbery at a convenience store on South Hopkins Avenue early Thursday morning at about 3 a.m.

According to Titusville Police Public Information Officer Amy Matthews,  Smart was arrested for stealing cash from a woman and pushing her as she tried to pay for merchandise.

He was charged with Robbery by Sudden Snatching, Aggravated Assault, Battery, Petit Theft, Violation of Probation and Resisting Arrest without Violence.

Matthews said the preliminary investigation revealed the suspect grabbed the victim’s money off of the store’s front counter, pushed her, made a verbal threat and then fled the scene on foot southbound on South Hopkins Avenue. The victim was not injured.

“Officers arrived on scene, gathered initial investigative information and began a K9 track to apprehend the at-large suspect,” said Matthews.

“The suspect was spotted near the crime scene and was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.”

TPD officers also recovered the suspect’s backpack containing two large machete-like knives, which were in his possession during the crime.

Smart was positively identified by witnesses and booked into the Brevard County Jail without bond.
