BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Florida League of Cities, the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments, announced that Cocoa Councilperson Lorraine Koss was recently appointed to serve on the Florida League of Cities 2020-2021 Utilities, Natural Resources & Public Works legislative policy committee.
Legislative policy committee chairs, vice-chairs and members are appointed annually by the League’s president.
Florida League of Cities President Tony Ortiz, commissioner for the City of Orlando, made the appointments for this term.
As a legislative policy committee member, Lorraine Koss will help develop the League’s Legislative Action Agenda, which details priority issues that are most likely to affect daily municipal governance and local decision-making during the upcoming legislative session, as well as help League staff understand the real-world implications of proposed legislation and are asked to serve as advocates throughout the legislative process.
“It’s an honor to serve on this committee,” explains Koss.
“We are at a critical juncture for tackling water issues in Florida. Nothing could be more important than our most precious natural resource and the infrastructure that delivers it to our homes.”
Councilperson Koss formerly served as Deputy Director of the US Water Alliance and Senior Manager of Public Education for the Water Environment Federation.
She was the first chair and is currently an appointed member of the ½ cent sales tax Save Our Indian River Lagoon Citizen Oversight Committee. She has a master’s degree in Environmental Management from Duke University.
